I woke up this morning and felt like my old self again. I'm not sure where that self has been for the past few months, but it's nice to have her back. I can definitely tell when I'm in the groove and when I'm not.
Groove. Not groove. Groove. Not Groove.
Groove.
Let's keep it that way.
This was a very mitten-filled weekend. I improvised a pattern for my fingerless mittens (decided against the Lake Park mittens and opted to invent my own) and then chugged through the first Bella Mitten. Though the latter is an insanely quick project, it required a re-knit partway through due to the pattern being quite narrow (resulting in an uncomfortably snug mitten). I opted to skip the decreases throughout the pattern and knit the mitten with 41 stitches (instead of the 31 stitches that the pattern ultimately comes down to).
While I would have preferred a different yarn for this project, it didn't go too terribly astray from the result that I desired. (Less halo-effect would have been nice, but I doubt my sister will mind.) The second mitten is on the needles and will go much faster now that I've mastered a comfortable size.
Photos and pattern for the new improvised fingerless mittens coming soon....
Question for the day: What do you do to find your groove again?

What a beautiful mitten! It looks so cozy.
That's a tough question! I think it finds me rather than I find it! But I think returning to the music I love, a good book, connecting with friends, helps me refocus my priorities and all else follows.
I call you! :) Also I change everything up and do something completely different for a few days, that freshens my mind and allows for clear creative thought! ...but sometimes nothing works but time and perspective.
Ooh, aah, I'm in love with that mitten. thanks for adding to my already long queue of "things I NEED" to knit :)
I totally get what you're saying about being in and out of the groove. Sometimes I fall out without really realizing it...or having any clue as to why. And then almost just as magically it comes back...whether it's some R&R time, a new project, a night out to dance away the cares, whatever, I'm glad my groove always seems to find it's way home after it has gone astray.
I want that pattern!!!!!
I am definitely making those!
to find my groove, I do some housework, I soon get bored of that and crafting seems a whole lot more attractive again!!
I so love those mittens. You are a fast knitter! I'm so going to make those!
To get back in the groove... guess it depends. Music makes me work harder, finish a project that is driving me nuts helps (or just chucking it) or sometimes doing something quick an easy helps me get back in the groove.
the mitts look fabulous, good call on the skipped decreases they look snug enough as they are.
my knitting groove comes and goes, I usually find if I start a new project and use yarn that I really love then it tends to start the ball rolling (ha ha no pun intended) for the other WIPs too. But then again, sometimes it just comes back in its own frenzied way.
Great mitten.
I find my groove in nature - getting my feet off the pavement.
Groove on!
It usually involves going "offline" for a few days... as in turning off phones, computers, and the doorbell. Just spending some time with me and the family and usually PLAYING in my creative space(s).
Glad you found yours again!
i look through all of my craft and knitting books and magazines. it is relaxing and reminds of all the things that i have been meaning to make.
Lovely mitten!
I haven't knitted for ages, but this definitely inspires me to start again :)
Groove...well, it usually involves singing/music or just vegging on the couch. Cup of tea or coffee optional.
:)
Visiting you from SITS--have a great day!
I find that when I can get at least one room uncluttered (which ususally means moving the clutter to another room!) I feel like I'm back in the groove again. It's as if the removed chaos helps me think clearer and look forward to completing a project or starting a new one!
Wow, that was quick. I think I started on my Bellas a couple of days before you and I'm only half done with the first one...
They're gorgeous! don't you love that pattern? Easy, schmeasy and well written.
These mitts are great!! I love that they're a little longer which makes them super practical for real winters.
Marie, you are so talented, to not only knit what you do, but to create it?!? I wish you were here to sit by my side and teach me...learning from a book is so hard. I can't believe Josh is so grown up! I am sorry for the news. Ian has promised me he won't grow up..and to prove it he said he will never eat vegetables again!
